RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS FOR KIDS WITH ATOPIC DERMATITIS OR ECZEMA:
ATOPIC DERMATITIS OR ECZEMA IN INFANT
My daughter has this type of skin condition. It first came out when she was just a month old. Her scalp and eyebrows were very scaly, and there were pink scaly patches or rashes all over her face and in some parts of her body, particularly skin folds. We had taken her to a pedia-derma in Makati Medical Center, the dermatologist said that it was Seborrheic Dermatitis.
Seborrheic Dermatitis is also known as Cradle Cap in babies. It is a common and mild form of eczema that usually disappears on its own before the baby reaches its first birthday, but in my daughter’s case, it did not, in fact, it had turned out to be Atopic Dermatitis.
The good news is, this skin condition is not permanent. Most of the time, kids outgrow this condition, or it becomes less severe as they grow older. Kids who have “atopic dermatitis” are susceptible to many irritants, their skin can quickly become very itchy, and scratching is often very hard to resist, especially when the skin is dry.
Recommended Products for Kids with Atopic Dermatitis
Very hot or cold weather; exposures to harsh soaps (body soaps or detergents used in clothes); scratchy fabrics such as jeans and more are just some of the things that can trigger this condition.
The dermatologist advised us to apply hydrocortisone ointment for 5 to 7 days. Improvements were visible immediately after a few hours as it contains steroids. It is always wise to consult a doctor before using this cream as it can cause thinning of the skin.
ATOPIC DERMATITIS PREVENTION NOTES:
-Keep your baby cool and sweat-free all the time.
-Wear clothes that are made from lightweight and soft fabrics. Avoid scratchy fabrics like jeans.
-Use mild detergent soaps in washing baby’s clothes. You may use Perla white; it is gentle and is recommended by pediatricians.
-Use a mild body soap like Cetaphil, Oilatum or Dove extra sensitive (Dove extra sensitive is the cheapest among the brands, but it works excellent like others.).
-Keep their fingernails short.
-Moisturize their skin by applying a very mild lotion 3 times a day. Physiogel works perfectly, and it is also one of the recommended products for kids with atopic dermatitis.
Some food may trigger this skin condition that’s why it is vital to consult your pediatrician for guidance.
